From the get-go you're accepting missions from NPCs⁠—completing them successfully means a boost in both your experience and level. Throughout each mission you manually control your character, or if you want, you can activate auto-mode. That way all you have to do is focus on managing your characters and inventory⁠—a key strategic element.
